We euthanized Dusty yesterday. After 120 days there was no real change in her attitude and I couldn't trust her. She had extremely painful heat cycles and seemed to have a rotten attitude during that time. The final straw was when she went after my 14 year old daughter totally unprovoked.
When I was younger I thought I could save everything. As I got older I got wiser - in some things. I learned that I can't save them all. I'm sad that she didn't work out but relieved that no one got hurt while we were trying.

So sorry it came to that, but there is only so much a person can do and if problems are dangerous it's not worth it. You guys sure gave it all you had though.
ReplyDeleteYou did the right thing. If an animal is dangerous, you can't risk it. Sorry it came to that. ((hugs))
ReplyDeleteYou've tried and gave her the chance. Too bad it came to that, but your decision was most likely the correct one...safety is the key. I'm sure your heart is hurting...sending hugs your way~
ReplyDeleteIt is a sad thing to do and she was a cute mare, but the bottom line is she was not going to be safe to be around. You gave her the chance and I am sure you are feeling the pain of the decision, but as you said, you can't save everything as we think when we are younger. There is a time in life we know what has to be done. ((Hugs))
ReplyDelete(((HUGS)))
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry for your loss.
You definitely did the right thing.
ReplyDeleteNo matter how hard it is, the right thing is never the wrong decision.
ReplyDeleteYou have my deepest admiration for giving this mare a chance at a productive life.
Please don't second guess yourself, better this end-with you, compassionate and caring-than many others we can imagine.
Thanks for all your comments. I truly believe we did the right thing.
ReplyDeleteTJ - Your comments mean a lot. You also had a connection with this mare and I know that some people would try to lay the blame somewhere other than Dusty. Thanks.
